Women's Basketball Sweeps Vaden Cup
Dorian Sharp named MVP as WBB wins BSC Vaden Cup
Buffalo, NY – The Bryant and Stratton women's basketball team was crowned the 2021 Vaden Cup Champions on Sunday, defeating Bryant and Stratton Buffalo 83-82 in overtime.
After a victory over the number 3 seed Bryant and Stratton Syracuse on Saturday, the Lady Bobcats advanced to the championship on Sunday afternoon facing off against host and number 1 seed Bryant and Stratton Buffalo. The Lady Bobcats of Rochester were looking to avenge two early season losses to Buffalo.
After the first twenty minutes, the game was in Buffalo's hands. The first quarter came to a close with Rochester down seven, and the lead grew to 14 going into the locker room for half time. The Lady Bobcats had some work to do coming out of the break and after three quarters found themselves down 15 points.
Coach O'neill's pep talk going into the fourth quarter worked wonders as the Lady Bobcats outscored Buffalo by 15 points, 29-14 to force an extra frame of basketball and kept their championship hopes alive. In the final 5 minutes, it was back and forth, but ultimately, Rochester had the last laugh outscoring Buffalo, 8-7 and winning the 2021 Vaden Cup by a final score of 83-82.
Dorian Sharp was named MVP of the Vaden Cup. Sharp led all scorers in the championship game scoring 25 points, while also grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. Kathryn Kanhoye also topped the 20-point mark scoring 22 points on 6-10 shooting from behind the three point line. The other double digit scorers for the Lady Bobcats were Shanell Glover and Myjoi Adams with 12 and 10 respectfully.
The 2021 Vaden Cup ended the season for Bryant and Stratton women's basketball. It was another successful season for the Lady Bobcats finishing the season with a 9-3 record overall and completing the year winning 5 games in a row.
