Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short in OT at BSC Ohio
2 Bobcats score 20+; not enough as Men's Basketball falls
North Ridgeville, OH – The Bryant and Stratton Rochester men's basketball team traveled to Ohio on Saturday afternoon to take on the Bobcats of the Bryant and Stratton Ohio campus. The Rochester campus came up short in overtime, 79-75.
The victory for Bryant and Stratton Ohio lifts their squad to 6-1 on the season, while Bryant and Stratton Rochester falls to 1-5 on their season.
Andre Hairston added another strong performance to his resume, finishing the contest with a team high 25 points off the bench. In addition to another 20+ point outing, Hairston also added 8 rebounds while shooting 11-17 from the field. Marcus Zappia was the other Bobcat that scored over 20 points, finishing with 21, 8 rebounds and 4 steals while shooting an efficient 15-16 from the free throw line. Donte Crumpler also added a double double for the 'Cats scoring 15 points and pulling down a game high 13 rebounds.
It was a close game right from the start but eventually Bryant and Stratton Ohio saw their lead grow all the way to 12 with less than 10 minutes left in the first half. The Bobcats of Rochester were able to crawl their way back before the first twenty minutes came to a close, cutting the BSC-Ohio lead to only 3, on an Andre Hairston lay-up.
Bryant and Stratton Rochester came out of the locker room strong like it always does. The big men got involved early to start the half feeding the ball to Crumpler, and Hairston got layups and the Bobcats overtook Ohio's lead and gained their own lead. At just under the 11 minute mark, the Rochester lead was at 10. The game went back and forth till the final buzzer of regulation, as Rochester missed a free throw to take the lead, as well as Ohio missing a jumpshot at the buzzer of regulation for the win.
Overtime was next for both teams and ultimately, Ohio got the best of Rochester in the extra frame. The home team outscored the visitors 11-7 in the extra 5 minutes, led by Larry Reynolds scoring 5 of Ohio's 11 points.
The victory for BSC-Ohio was their sixth of the year and the second victory over the Bobcats from Rochester this season. The loss for Rochester drops their record to 1-5 on the year, and is their second loss to BSC Ohio this year. The two losses for Rochester have only came by a combined 8 points.
Bryant and Stratton Rochester is now off until the 5th of March where it will travel east to take on Bryant and Stratton Syracuse, scheduled for a 3pm tip off.
