Hairston's Career High Not Enough as Men's Basketball Falls
Andre Hairston scored a career high 16, as Bobcats fall on the road
Buffalo, NY – The Bryant and Stratton Rochester's men's basketball team took on the Vikings of Villa Maria College on Thursday in a matchup that took place at Villa Maria. Bryant and Stratton Rochester came up just short, falling 81-77.
It was a close game right from the start, then Villa Maria seemed to begin to pull away at about the 10 minute mark in the first half. The Bobcats used a 9-0 run, paced by Donte Crumpler and his defense to cut the lead to as little as 3. Entering the half time break, the Bobcats trailed by 5, led by Crumpler who had 7 points and a pair of steals in the first twenty minutes. Andre Hairston also provided a much needed spark off the bench in the first half as well, scoring 8 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.
Bryant and Stratton came out of the break firing, starting the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 42-41 advantage. The lead built to as many as four over a 9 minute span and the game had multiple lead changes all the way down to about the 7 minute mark. From there, the Vikings regained the lead and they wouldn't relenquish it as they lead the rest of the way to hang on for the 4 point victory. The home win for Villa Maria gave them their first win of the season, while Bryant and Stratton drops to 1-3.
Crumpler andHairston made their presence felt in the paint all night, as Crumpler finished with 11 points and 4 steals, while Hairston dropped a career high 16 points and 9 rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench.
Marcus Zappia had a near triple-double in the loss, finishing with 10 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds. In total, 5 different Bobcats scored 10 more points in the setback.
Through four games, Bryant and Stratton Rochester is now 1-3 on the year and has just under a week off. Bryant and Stratton Syracuse is their next contest on the 17th, back at home in Rochester.
