Five Bobcats Honored with USCAA Awards
Five members of the Bryant & Stratton College basketball teams were honored with postseason awards by the USCAA.
A trio of players from the third-ranked women's basketball team earned All American honors while head coach Sean Knorr was named the USCAA DI Coach of the Year.
Knorr was instrumental in helping to lead the first-year program to impressive heights that culminated in earning the number three overall seed in the USCAA National Championship tournament and a 22-5 overall record.
Defense was a hallmark of Bryant & Stratton's play for the entire season as the Bobcats held opponents to 50 or fewer points eight different times, matching the number of times the Bobcats surrendered 60 or more points durign the regular season. After opening 8-4, the Bobcats began the 2020 portion of their schedule with a 68-64 loss to Point Park University. From there, the Bobcats went on a dazzling 13-0 run that saw them vault up the USCAA Coaches Poll and secure a spot in the 2020 National Championship tournament.
Knorr recieved a number of key contributions throughout the year, including USCAA All American Honorable Mention Chevaneese Millington. Millington posted 29 steals and 83 rebounds on the season to go along with her 3.7 PPG average and a 76.9% free throw percentage.
Shanell Glover earned 2nd Team All American honors from the USCAA while serving as one of the offensive powerhouses of the Bobcats' attack. Glover finished the season as one of the top-20 scorers in the nation and with a top-30 ranking in points per game. She also pulled down 111 offensive rebounds, good for second nationally while shooting 43.7% from the field.
Dorian Sharp was named a 1st Team All American after ranking among the national leaders in nearly every statistical category tracked by the USCAA. Sharp finished 2019-20 fifth overall in points per game (20.3), third in total points (528) second in defensive (202) and total rebounds (309), fourth in offensive rebounds (107), sixth in field goal percentage (48.4), seventh from beyond the arc (36.0), fifth in assists (95) and the national leader in steals (103) and blocks (101).
On the men's side, Shandare Figgins was selected as a second team All American after compiling an impressive 2019-20 that saw him post 24.2 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, shoot 60.8% from the field and 42.6% from beyond the arc. His 24.2 points per game ranked second in the USCAA and he finished in the top five in nine other statistical categories, including total points, blocks and rebounds.
