Bobcats Ride Comeback to OT Victory Over Mohawk
It may be the preseason but drama wasn’t in short supply in Bryant & Stratton College’s 112-111 overtime victory over Mohawk College.
The Bobcats erased three separate double-digit leads in order to force the Mountaineers to overtime where BSC took control. Down 14 at halftime, the Bobcats clawed back only to see Mohawk open another 16-point cushion in the second half and one late in the contest.
After clawing back twice, the Bobcats found themselves down 15 with just over five minutes remaining in the contest. Bryant & Stratton ran out a young lineup for the contest, with Troy Jackson noting that eight players who keyed the comeback were freshmen. That group, led by Shandare Figgins’ 29 points and 13 rebounds, brought the Bobcats back once again.
Compared to the roller coaster regulation, overtime was fairly standard, with the teams trading points but Bryant & Stratton keeping the Mountaineers within reach. It was enough to pull off the win to kick off the new season against a team that topped the Bobcats by 33 last year.
“It was a very impressive win.,” Jackson said. “We were resilient, and we showed a lot of toughness for a young team.”
The Bobcats will be on a big stage for their second and final exhibition contest as they travel to Cleveland, OH to face the Byrant & Stratton College – Ohio men’s team at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. Playing on an NBA court isn’t lost on Jackson or his players, something he noted will add some nerves ahead of the game on October 30.
“It’s going to be a good test for us,” Jackson said. “They’re going to be very long and athletic and playing in an NBA arena I think the coaches and the players will be nervous.”
