Strong Second Half Pushes Fisher Past Bryant & Stratton
A narrow, four-point halftime deficit slipped away from the Bryant & Stratton College men’s basketball team as they dropped their home opener 86-69 to Fisher College on Sunday.
Four different lead changes defined a back-and-forth first half as the two sides traded blows. Shandare Figgins’ double-double and Victor Caldwell’s 21 points led the way for the Bobcats as the Bobcats worked to keep up with big runs by the Falcons in the second half.
Bryant & Stratton’s offense wouldn’t be enough to keep pace, however. Fisher’s 46-point surge put them in the driver’s seat as the game wound down, keeping Bryant & Stratton at bay to pull out the victory.
Caldwell was especially strong for the Bobcats as they pushed for a comeback in the second half. His 21 points led the Bobcats and he chipped in five assists and six rebounds. Shandare Figgins wasn’t far behind with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Torry Wright and Derek Minnigan were both strong on the board for the Bobcats, finishing with nine and eight rebounds, respectfully.
Elroy Clark scored nine for the Bobcats and Wright, Minnigan, Robert Davis, Maleek Mason and Deondrae Parker chipped in offensively. Head coach Troy Jackson noted that the first half featured impressive flow before Fisher ultimately pulled away.
“We played a very well coached and tough team,” Jackson said. “We learned a lot about who we are and what we need to fix in order to get better.”
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to West Virginia for the Big Blues Tip-Off Classic where they face Cheyney University on November 8 and Campbellsville University Harrodsburg on November 9.
