Rochester wins one for hometown fans
ROCHESTER, NY – After the initial game was called off due to bad weather, the Bryant & Stratton Collegeof Rochester and Bryant & Stratton College of Syracuse finally got to square off for their first ever game on Thursday night at James Monroe High School.
Rochester got off to a good start in the first period and took control by hitting deep threes and creating high-percentage baskets by moving the ball well. The home Bobcats were also able to stop
Syracuse on the offensive end and force multiple turnovers, giving them a lead for much of the half. The 'Cuse Cats kept it close, and by the end of the first, BSC Roc held a slim 45-43 lead. The 45 points was a first half scoring record for the home Bobcats.
Syracuse had a stronger half coming out of the locker room and after 8 minutes of play, they took a 59-57 lead. The visitors would keep up the strong shooting, increasing the deficit for Rochester by as much as 12. This time, it was Rochester's turn to keep things close as they took advantage of strong shooting and foul trouble by their opponents. With just over a minute left, Rochester had a 4-point lead, but Syracuse forced two turnovers, capitalizing on both to tie the game at 93 and force overtime.
Rochester would get the first basket and defensive stop of the overtime period. With control of the score the hosts were able to hit most of their free throws to take a three-point lead with 1.7 seconds left. Following a timeout, Syracuse turned the ball over on the in-bound, securing the win for Rochester 107-104 to record the program's first ever home victory. Rochester moves to 3-16 and pushes Syracuse to 3-16.
Up next: Rochester gears up for back-to-back home games this weekend, taking on the 5-17 College of St. Joseph Fighting Saints on Saturday, February 2 nd at 12 p.m. On Sunday, the Bobcats conclude their four-game homestand when they host the 9-10 Central Penn Knights. That game starts at 1:00 p.m. and will be a rematch from earlier in the year when the Knights beat Rochester 79-61.
