Bobcats Fall to the University of Maine-Fort Kent 85-67 in Program’s Inaugural Game
BUFFALO, NY- The Bryant & Stratton College Rochester Bobcats (0-1) opened up their season with a 85-67 loss to the University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals (1-0). The game was played at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, New York and was the Bobcats first game in program history. Sophomore Dimitri Campbell led BSC Rochester with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The game was also the season opener for UMaine-Fort Kent who are coming off back-to-back USCAA semi-final appearances. They were powered by senior Johnathon Caldwell who scored 16 points with 11 rebounds and 3 steals.
Early in the first half, the Bobcats found themselves down 17-10, but back-to-back threes made by freshman Kenyan McGhee (7 points, 5 assists) and fellow freshman Manny Sierra (10 points) cut Fort Kent's lead back down to 4. Rochester also took advantage of early foul trouble from the Bengals, going 7-11 from the free throw line in the first half. The Bobcats were able to keep the game close thanks in-part to a buzzer beating layup from Campbell who finished the half with 7 points. After one, the score was 35-34.
In the second, Rochester hit a scoring drought and UMFK's lead was back up to 10. After shooting 29% in the first half, Fort Kent found their rhythm from the field shooting 52% in the second half. The Bobcats were plagued by turnovers, committing a total of 22.
With just under 10 minutes left in the game, BSC Rochester was down by 7, but a scoring burst propelled the Bengals back to an 18 point lead which they would maintain until the final buzzer. The Bobcats finished with shot 32% from the field and missed 15 free throws.
Up next, the Bobcats will host their first ever home game at Monroe High School on Saturday, November 4th at 2:00 p.m. They will be taking on the Carlow University Celtics from Pittsburgh, PA (0-0).
