Suffocating Defense Leads Bobcats Past ECC

The theory that the best offense is a good defense is being put to the test in Rochester this season. The Bobcats women’s basketball team posted their second dominating defensive performance, holding their opponent to just 43 points in the second-straight game in a 76-43 win over Erie Community College.

Bryant & Stratton were once again driven by the play of Dorian Sharp and Shanell Glover as the starting five controlled play from the first tip. The Bobcats held a 24-9 lead after the first quarter and 39-13 at the half. Sharp led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds while Glover posted 11 points, four rebounds and five steals. Kaidijah Jones chipped in a terrific effort as well, posting 16 points and nine rebounds.

Sean Knorr’s slide would get plenty of support off the bench as well, with Jaisy Soto and Princess Santos noted as standouts by their coach.

"This team is forming into its own,” he said. “Role players are ready and willing to do what they need to in order to secure victories."

ECC would rebound slightly in the second half, finding slightly more success on offense, but it was Bryant & Stratton’s consistency that would salt the game away. Even as the Kats found more luck against BSC’s stifling defense, the Bobcats kept chipping away with baskets of their own and with so much damage done in the first half, Bryant & Stratton walked to their third-straight victory.

The Bobcats have now won four of their last five games and hit the road where they hold a 3-1 record on the young season. Tuesday’s game against Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers an opportunity to close out the month with a 5-2 record and 4-1 on the road.
