Bryant and Stratton Rochester Men's Soccer Opens First Season Game With a Loss.
Bobcats Suffers First Game Defeat
Rochester, N.Y. - D'Youville College was the venue for the Bobcats Men's Soccer Program of Rochester NY, to open the first ever game in collegiate play. It was a difficult start for the Bobcats who played a recent transfer from a NCAA Division 3 Athletics Program to a NCAA Division 2 Athletics Program.
In the first half, the Bobcats endured a lot of pressure from the D'Youville midfield and forwards, while keeping goalkeeper James Hogan (Newcatle, England) very busy in between the sticks. Wol Manuer (London, England) also contributed with some phenomenal last minute tackles to keep the score somewhat respectful. The saints kept up the pressure and were able to break through the Bobcats lines to score three times late in the first half, with one of the goals being a penalty kick after Nick Furino (Gates, N.Y.) was judged by the referee to foul a saints player in the 18-yard box. At the end of the first half it was the Saints 3-0.
With the start of the second half D'Youville brought more pressure from their offence and it was only within 6 minutes the Saints were on the board again. With James Hogan (Newcastle, England) coming off with an injury, the Bobcats had to rely on Thomas Plowman (Cambrdige, England) to take over from Hogan. Plowman made a total of 5 saves during his time in the net and conceding, 3 goals. Hogan finished with 6 saves before he left the field of play.
Coach Wynne said, "It was a tough opening game against a very talented D'Youville side. I thought we played good at times and had some really good spells within the game. Hogan, Plowman, Manuer and Boor all played really well. I think it's the start of something great but we have to keep pushing forward and keep the ball more so we can progress up the field".
The Bobcats play again tomorrow at Finger Lakes CC at 7pm.
