Bobcats back to winning ways after last-second bucket
ALBANY, NY – Following a four-game homestand, the Bryant & Stratton College of Rochester Bobcats hit the road to take on the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Science Panthers. After a tightly-contested game, the 'Cats sank a last-second basket to win the game by a final score of 69-68.
Both teams came out swinging with as many as six lead changes in the first half. Despite being outshot, Rochester lead for more than 8 minutes in the first. The 'Cats dominated on the boards, grabbing 26 rebounds and converting 9-points off second chance opportunity. BSC also dropped 6 three's in the half. Solid shooting and defense from the Panthers kept the game close and the two teams went into the half separated by just two points: Rochester 30, ACPHS 28.
Rochester was red-hot to begin the second period. They tacked on an additional 9 three-pointers to bring their total to 15 and continued to own the glass, tallying a total of 51 rebounds, 23 of which were offensive. With over 8 minutes left, the Bobcats had stretched their lead to 11 points, but a series of turnovers and fouls allowed the Panthers to close the gap. ACPHS would eventually regain the lead with less than 45 seconds left in the game. After a timeout, Rochester would miss a couple of attempts, but eventually snagged a rebound and converted to take a one-point lead with just 1.2 seconds left in the game. The Panthers in-bounded the ball but did not get the shot off in time to beat the Buzzer. BSC used team play at both ends with 21 assists on 25 made baskets and held ACPHS to 20% shooting from three point range. With the nail-biting victory the 'Cats moved their record to 5-17 for the season. The win also pushed Rochester to their 3rd win in 4 games.
Up next: Rochester makes one more stop on the road before returning home. They'll head west to take on I-90 rival Bryant & Stratton College of Buffalo. Buffalo is currently ranked 4th in the USCAA Division I polls and has already topped Rochester once this year back in December by a score of 84-77.
