Rochester's first program win on hold until the New Year
Springfield, OH - As history will be told, 2018 did not hold the Bobcats first program victory. Rochester traveled to the Charles B Zimmerman Kiwanis/Wittenberg University Basketball Classic in Springfield, OH. While in the Buckeye State the Bobcats had their last two opportunities to land that elusive first win. Standing in their way were the tough most decorated opponents they would face all season, the #10 NCAA Division III ranked Wittenberg University Tigers in game one; and the #20 NCAA Division III ranked Wabash Little Giants.
In game one, Rochester would show they could give the two time National Champion Tigers all they could handle. A back and forth start led to a tied game with 9:55 left in the first half. In the next five and a half minutes the Tigers would take a three point lead. With 4:17 remaining before intermission the 3 point deficit for the Bobcats would be the closest they would get for the rest of the game. Wittenberg would go on a 16-4 run to close the half. The second half would start much like the first with the teams going back and forth with Wittenberg eventually proving to be too much for the Bobcats.
In final game of the back to back for Rochester, awaited previously undefeated Wabash Little Giants who lost a three point game the night before. Wabash shot 16% from deep in that game which is less than half of their team average. That metric balanced itself out against Rochester as Wabash shot 52% from three point range vs the Bobcats. This contest was never really in question as the Little Giants started out hot and stayed hot throughout the game finishing 23-44 from three point land.
The Bobcats will turn the calendar year over and return to action on January 6th vs the Central Penn Knights.
